What exactly is a treadmill?
A treadmill provides the same as workout for the same muscles that you use for walking or running outdoors, but it provides the benefits of being indoors. It can be stored in a small area, with many treadmills being able to fold up to save space.
Treadmills provide an excellent way to improve cardiovascular health and with sustained use can help you lose weight or maintain a healthy weight.
Treadmill workout techniques
Workouts can be a length of time, anything form 15 minutes and/or distance based. Both time and distance can be built up as you get used your current targets.
Speed can be a walk or a fast run, or anything in between and can be increased as your stamina improves.
Many treadmills will have exercise programs built into them and can have an incline for a more vigorous workout.
Treadmill varieties
Manual treadmill – These treadmills are the most basic and have to be adjust ed manually, such as the incline. They are powered purely by walking or running on them. They tend to be the cheapest type of treadmill.
Motorised treadmill – These treadmills have a motor and have computerised programming that can automatically adjust the incline and speeds through a pre-programmed run. These are the most popular types of treadmills.
Folding treadmill – These treadmills are very popular with people that have limited space and usually have the same functionality of a motorised treadmill.
